I have focussed my career on developing specific skills to really understand trauma and how it impacts my clients. When you work with me you will feel understood and supported as I guide you through finally processing your trauma so you can feel like yourself again.
You have experienced trauma in your life that you are struggling to put behind you. You do your best to get through your days and do what you need to do, but the trauma continues to consume you. You are having nightmares, flashes of pictures interrupt your sleep, or they are even creeping into daily life. Your anxiety is seeping into your every moment and you want it to stop. When you work with me we will use specific trauma treatment modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to help you manage these ruminating thoughts and finally get past them so you can get your quality of life back. Change is tough, but not impossible. I believe humans are survivors, pushing through difficult times, healing wounds and ultimately thriving. Therapy support is a key component to moving beyond surviving to thriving. When you work with me, you can expect patience, empathy and a willingness to travel through the therapy process at your pace. I will be a guide and a partner as you share your pain and your successes. I encourage reflection and I support you to stay in the moment through my use of mindfulness techniques that we can use in the therapy room and that you can take with you.
I am a Registered Social Worker with experience in both community-based agencies and the private/corporate sector. I enjoy working with adults who are feeling unbalanced and stressed, perhaps due to a lack of coping skills, anxiety/panic attacks, low self-esteem or are facing a difficult life transition. I offer an integrative approach that combines different modalities and therapeutic tools to fit your individual needs and goals.
Outside of work, I love yoga, meditation and being in nature, particularly by the water. I enjoy trying new foods and exploring local spots in the summer months. My favourite pastimes are gardening and relaxing with my Maine Coon rescue cat.
I understand how difficult it is to seek out support. It takes courage and vulnerability to explore parts of yourself you have not before. Ironically, it is the most difficult moments in life that can lead us to therapy. Working with me will help you use these difficulties to have a positive impact as you move forward, stronger, more capable and empowered. I will meet you with patience, curiosity, compassion and walk alongside you.

Tony DiGiacomo
Hey! My name is Tony and I’m a Psychotherapist. I work with people who experience various mental health and substance use concerns, and the families and loved ones who support them. I work with a lot of young adults and people transitioning into adulthood. I’m also really interested in men’s mental health across the lifespan, and specifically how these issues show themselves in actions and behaviours.
I’ve been working in the field for 20 years and I try to relate to clients respectfully and patiently. I fully believe that people are the experts in themselves, and have the answers they are looking for within. They just might need a little help along the way. I’ve been trained in a lot of different therapies, but I often use mindfulness and similar approaches that focus on the present moment and harnessing client strengths.
In addition to psychotherapy, I also lecture about mental health at various universities and in the private sector to agencies and businesses. I’m also a published author in various chapter books and peer-reviewed journals, and I continue to review articles for publication.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing and listening to music, sports (mostly basketball, baseball and soccer), eating all kinds of food, watching good TV and spending time with my three amazing kids.
I’ve worked in both inpatient and outpatient mental health treatment settings. I holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Counselling and a PhD in Rehabilitation Science, within the Faculty of Health Sciences, from McMaster University. I also holds a diploma in Addictions Studies from McMaster University and a Certificate in Clinical Supervision from McGill University. I am a regulated health professional. I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
